Fun Sense of Smell Activities!
Is there a smell that can transport you to a certain place? For me it is smell of fresh baked waffle cones. It makes me feel like I am on Main Street in Disneyland! Today we explored all about the wonderfulness of our sense of smell. We had a great day completing the activities below. I hope you enjoy them too for your 5 senses unit! I have a free printable for you at the end of the post so be sure to grab yourself a copy!
{Previous 5 Senses Unit Days}
- Sense of Sight
- Sense of Hearing
- Sense of Touch
- We listened to Mr. R's Nose and Sense of Smell song on YouTube
- We brainstormed our favorite and least favorite smells
- We discussed ways that our sense of smell keeps us safe
- One of our favorites of the day was picking a kid safe mystery essential oil blend for our classroom. During our Language Arts time, she made 3 guesses of what she thought the smell was and we charted her responses on the white board. Her first guess was close! She guessed ginger when it was actually maple.
- We read Smell it! by Sally Hewitt
- One of our activities, from the book, was making smell cups! We added an element of fun by putting on a blindfold. I made a worksheet for her to draw a picture of what her guesses were and I dictated the words for her. Afterwards, we looked at what was actually in the cup and she drew pictures for this as well. Grab your copy of this worksheet down below!
- We ended the day with writing and drawing about what we like to smell
